107 Central Street, the Daniel & Sarah Collins House (c. 1872)

Central Street was created in 1870. In 1872, Nathan Jewett, who lived on High Street in Ipswich, sold this parcel from the rear of his lot “on the new road” to Daniel O. Collins for $350.00 (862:155)

Daniel O. Collins (1808-1892) and his wife, Sarah Lord Collins (1809-1884), are buried at the Old North Burying Ground in Ipswich. They had two daughters, Mary Collins, 1852-1919, and Abbie Collins, 1843-1922. Daniel deeded the house to his daughter Mary in 1887 (1207:216).

This rambling double house is trimmed with characteristic Queen Anne finery. The entrance porches are decorated with turned posts, balusters, and spindle screens. Elaborate rising sun motifs in both gables, eave brackets, and staggered butt shingles in the bays complete the design.
