2022 Mary Conley Award

2022 Mary Conley Awards for Historic Preservation

Every year since 1992, the Ipswich Historical Commission has presented the Mary P. Conley Preservation Award, named in honor of Mary for her endless dedication to preserving historical sites. The award may be given to the owners of an Ipswich property that is deemed noteworthy for a recent restoration or general improvement. At the Select Board meeting on Monday, August 8, 2023, members of the IHC presented the 2022 awards to the following homes:

Grant’s Barn, 12 Woods Lane

Grant’s Barn, 12 Woods Lane (1865). From 2017 to 2021, the barn was raised and a new foundation was poured. The entire structure was re-supported and the exterior was insulated. Interior work included stairs and a bridge to open up the space. Architect: Pill-Maharam; Exterior Work: Joset Corporation; Interior Work and Carpentry.

Isaac Lord House, 83 High Street

Isaac Lord House, 83 High Street. Structural evidence in the house at 83 High St. in Ipswich suggests that the right section was a First Period one-over-one room “half house” to which the left side was added by Isaac Lord in 1806-08. Renovation of the house began in 2017, along with a very convincing replica Georgian house on the empty section of the lot. Architect: Tom Mayo; Project developer: Mike Becker; Contractor/builder: Arthur Allen
