No Kings Rally, Saturday, October 17 at Noon

“The time to guard against corruption and tyranny is before they shall have gotten hold of us. It is better to keep the wolf out of the fold than to trust to drawing his teeth and talons after he shall have entered.”

Thomas Jefferson

“Nor should our assembly be deluded by the integrity of their own purposes, and conclude that these unlimited powers will never be abused…They should look forward to a time, and that not a distant one, when corruption in this, as in the country from which we derive our origin, will have seized the heads of government, and be spread by them through the body of the people; when they will purchase the voices of the people, and make them pay the price.” —Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, writing in 1782.

The Town of Ipswich is known as the Birthplace of American Independence. At our annual town meeting in May, 2026, a Resolution calling on Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty of presidential oversight, including, but not limited to, impeachment, passed overwhelmingly.

No Kings Rally, Saturday, October 17

Every Saturday for the past two years, Ipswich citizens have held a weekly vigil from noon to 1:00pm at the Middle Green on South Main Street, holding signs in support of democracy and constitutional government. On several occasions, the rally became part of a national event called “No Kings Day.” On March 28, 2026, an estimated 8 to 9 million participants at over 3,300 events protested actions by the Trump administration. In Ipswich, well over a thousand people came out on a chilly, sunny Saturday and lined the street. Many people carry signs or flags, while others simply stand in support of the protest.

Ipswich citizens will participate in the next national No Kings event this Saturday, October 17, at noon at the Middle Green.
