Sue Nelson, 2010 Mary P. Conley Award Winner

Sue Nelson of Ipswich received the 2010 Mary P. Conley Award for her years of service in protecting and restoring historic properties in Ipswich.  She is the first person to win the award, which usually honors a preserved structure. Sue was a member of the Ipswich Historical Commission for six years and helped write the town’s demolition delay bylaw. Her efforts have contributed to the preservation of the Heard House, the Whipple House, and the Abner Harris-Captain Ebenezer Sutton House on Water Street. Sue’s “Partial List of Historic Buildings” and “First and Second Period Houses” are invaluable resources for this website.

Nelson has a master’s degree in historic preservation from Boston University and served as a trustee of the Ipswich Museum.
